Does Your Website Have SEO Value?
)
Before making any major changes to your website – especially if you're planning a migration or redesign – it’s worth checking whether your current site has SEO value that’s worth protecting.
Why Does SEO Value Even Matter?
Your website’s SEO value is what helps people find you organically via Google and other search engines.
For event organisers, this matters because:
-
Attendees search for your event by name – if your site isn't ranking, you'll be scoring an own goal as potential visitors might land on outdated or third-party pages.
-
Exhibitors and sponsors are researching events like yours – strong SEO makes you more discoverable (and more appealing).
-
Organic traffic drives year-round visibility – not just during the run up to the show.
There are lots of ways you can lose SEO value from carrying out a website relaunch, to making major changes to your website, changing the site domain or through a badly run migration (like not redirecting URLs properly). If this happens you risk:
- Dropping out of search results
- Losing traffic to competitors
- Reducing lead generation for next year’s event
Preserving SEO value protects the digital footprint your event has already built — and keeps your marketing engine running.
How To Check SEO Value
Here are two quick checks we recommend:
1. Check Your Website’s Authority
Use the free Ahrefs Backlink Checker.
Just pop your site domain into the search box and discover the Domain Rating (DR):
DR Score | What It Means |
---|---|
0–10 | Very new site, just getting going |
11–20 | Developing, some early link-building |
21–40 | Good – strong foundation |
41–60 | High-value site – must preserve SEO |
61+ | Excellent – top-tier SEO asset |
If your DR is 20 or higher, your site has valuable authority. Backlinks are hard to rebuild once lost, so protect them with your life!
2. Check Organic Search TrafficIf you have access to tools like Similarweb, check your domain for traffic sources.
Look specifically for the organic search traffic statistics. If it's there, your site is discoverable on Google – and that’s gold.
So, What’s the Verdict?✅ If your DR is 20+
✅ Or you have organic traffic
→ Your site has SEO value that should be preserved during any migration.
How Do You Build SEO Value?
SEO value comes from a mix of things, including:
-
Getting backlinks from other trusted websites
-
Creating helpful, keyword-rich content (like blogs and speaker pages)
-
Making sure your site is fast, mobile-friendly and easy to navigate
-
Using SEO best practices like meta tags, headings, and clean URLs
