Google Search announced yesterday that they'd released a core update - and if you're not sure what that means for you we're here to give you the lowdown.
What is a core update?
Their core updates are essentially changes to their search algorithms and systems. The important thing for you, and your website is that these changes may affect the way that your website pages are performing - either for the better or worse. It's always worth keeping an eye out for these updates as it may give you an explanation as to why your website's performance and traffic has experienced a change.
What to do if you are affected?
Google have given this advice if you are hit:
- Pages that experience a change following their core update may not have anything to fix but it's always worth reviewing your page content regularly to check whether any improvements can be made.
- Focus on offering the best content you can, as that is what the Google algorithms are looking to reward - they've created a great list of questions you should ask yourself when creating content which we think is well worth a look.
- Consider carrying out an audit of the drops you have experienced, look at the pages impacted, for what type of search and review them against the questions we've flagged above.
This update is likely to last for a couple of weeks and Google usually carry out updates every few months so it might be that any of your content that is impacted will not recover until the next core update takes place. However, they have said smaller updates take place more regularly so you may see changes more quickly.
